Tuesday Cub Scouts at Colonel J.E.Farewell PS

The boys and girls arrive at the meeting place to steam-off games and getting organized in their sixes in preparation for a formal opening .
The program usually includes some competitive games, crafts, stories, play acting, introduction to outdoor skills and fun activities.
At the end of the evening, the Cub Scouts form a closing circle and recite a standard closing.
On scheduled nights, the wolf cubs will be visiting places of interest, hiking at Heber Down Conservation Area and having visitors come into the gymnasium.

The Cub Program

Activities: The Cub Scout program is built around a variety of activities that include: 

  • Nature walks and hikes
  • Winter cabin and fall and spring based tent camping 
  • Tree planting
  • Games and sports
  • Crafts
  • Storytelling and play acting
  • Spiritual fellowship

Camping at Scout Camp Samac, Oshawa

Every year we book a cabin at Scout Camp Samac to provide the youth with an opportunity to really explore and enjoy the outdoors with the aid of their Scouters.
A plan is put together, hot meals served and indoor accommodations, challenges the youth to develop independence and learn more in depth Scouting skills.
Cost for the camp is about $25 including cabin, food, crafts and activities.

Planned camp dates are:
Feb 7-9, 2025 Cabin camping at Camp Samac, includes annual Family banquet on Saturday night at the Council Hall.​ 
Aug 2-5, 2024 – Join In Jamboree, Camp Samac, 275 Conlin Rd E Oshawa. Camping with international Scouts.
 ​


Cub Cuborama and Cuboree

Cub Groups from across Durham Region get together to camp in tents at to annual camps. These are usually based on a theme, include lots of field activities and competitions, a wide game, and campfire at night.

Cub Kar Race Competition

Kub Kar Races take place during the month of February at (location to be announced). Youth and their parents are encouraged work together to build a car (kit available from the Scout Shop.)


Fundraising

Beaver Scouts are encouraged to do their best to help with our three fundraising activities each year.

SCOUT POPCORN: Sell sheets are distributed in the end of September for the selling period of October. Product is prepaid and distributed to the buyers in the third week of November. 50% of the sales stay with the 1st Whitby Group. Link to online sales.

APPLE DAY: This late October event takes place over the weekend as we set up youth and volunteers to offer fresh apples in exchange for donations at one of two venues. The coordinator will ask you to schedule your child for one or two hour time slots. Details will be sent out in the first week of October. 100% of the profit stays with the 1st Whitby Group.

SCOUTREES: Planting day is September 2022. Last planting took place at Cullen Park. During the three weeks approaching the planting day, youth and parents are encouraged to solicit donations toward the project. 85% of the funds raised stay with the 1st Whitby Group. Youth who participate will be rewarded with a crest.

Pringle Scout Trail Clean-Up

Cub Scouts are encouraged to help clean up the Scout trail starting at Pringle Creek Public School and heading north and south along Pringle Creek. This effort helps to teach the youth about caring for their environments. Meeting at 10:00 am for about 1 hour. Participants will get a crest for their assistance.
