YLT Youth Leadership Training Workshop for Scouts and Venturers

December 3-5, 2021  Camp Samac, Oshawa, Arrive 6:30pm – depart 12 noon. Includes meals, activities and indoor accommodations. $65  

This is a for-youth-by-youth leadership program aimed towards Venturer Scouts, incorporating the new Canadian Path Trail Cards. We invite you to come out and learn about leadership and refine existing skills all while having fun and meeting some new fellow Scouts. 

Weekend Menu (proposed)

Friday:  Mug-Up, nachos, cheese & salsa, cookies
Saturday am: pancakes and sausage, cereal, juice, milk
Saturday noon: Home-made soup, grilled cheese, garden salad
Saturday snack: fresh fruit, veggies & dip, beverage station
Saturday evening: chicken & pasta, vegetables, salad, dessert Saturday late: cheese & crackers
Sunday am:  Egg & cheese WicMuffins, ham, cereal, milk, juice

Accommodations

Youth: Cabins accommodate 38 in bunk beds with separate sleeping areas for male and female participants. The cabin has electric heat, electric lights and 2 stoves, indoor washrooms and is accessible for those with mobility issues. Adults/Scouters: Scouters are not required to attend with their youth we will have enough Scouters for ratio.  The YLT  Youth Leadership Training program itself is completely youth led and delivered.  Scouters are welcome to stay for the weekend but are not able to participate in the YLT program, we will find things to keep you busy.  You are welcome to observe the program and it can be a great forum for peer to peer discussion on program development and execution with other Scouters.  You may also take time to visit the Scout Shop or just sit back and relax.

Friday 

6:30pm – 8:00pm Arrival at the “Camp” (after dinner)
8:00pm Opening: “Ice breaker exercises” 
10:00pm Cards, snacks, etc.12:30am All quiet 

Saturday

8:30am Rise & prepare for the day
9:00am Breakfast
9:30am Becoming a Leader – Tarp Flip
10:15am Wide game & Outdoors activity 
11:45am Teamwork – Write a Story
12:30pm Lunch
1:30pm Becoming a Leader – Leadership Styles
2:15pm Communication – Bird’s Nest
3:00pm Wide game & Outdoors activity
3:30pm Free Time & Snack
4:00pm Teamwork – Launch a Projectile
4:45pm Project Management – Managing Risk
5:30pm Prepare for Dinner6:00pm Dinner
8:00pm Becoming a Leader – Leadership Race
8:45pm Campfire (casual)10:00pm Cards, movie, snack, etc.
12:30am All quiet 

Sunday

8:30am Rise and Prepare for the day

11:30pm Pack up gear and clean cabin 
12:00pm Lunch – Hot Dogs for the road home
12:00-12:30pm Departure when ready
